What would bring Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, democrats, republicans, business owners and homeless people together to form a community known as Father’s House? A vision of a community that is built on unconditional love; a love that gives for the sake of the recipient and not for its own sake.
It is because we have received this kind of love from God that we believe that we should freely give it to one another. And so, a community has come together around this value, to be a family where love binds us together in such a way that it diminishes divisions.
Because of this vision, we are an outward looking church. We are a church that exists to transform the community we planted ourselves in, downtown Portland. We know that if the heart of the city is transformed it will have a great affect on the entire region, thus our strategic purpose is to work together in collaboration with other churches, ministries and agencies to work towards a transformation that affects people, neighborhoods, institutions and culture.
Our Sunday services are a celebration of the goodness of God we have all encountered in our lives. They are geared to strengthen our walk and faith in God so that we can be better equipped to go about the work of community transformation.
Community Groups meet on Tuesdays, going into the community to serve needs & engage in times of prayer for our city and one another. Our groups have seasonal themes. In the later fall and winter the emphasis is on personal and relational growth through classes, small groups and other activities. The spring and summer emphasis is focused on serving the community and outreach.
One of the major ways the people of Father’s House service the community is through a simple serving initiative called “Can We Help?”, the people of Father’s House have impacted the homeless, the business people, residents of all types, students and even the police with acts of kindness with no strings attached.
